Swim Academy Instructor

Job Description

The Scarborough Swim Club is a not-for-profit swim club associated with both Swim Ontario and Swimming Canada and provides professional swim instruction, training and coaching for competitive swimmers of all ages. The Club primarily operates in the eastern region of the GTA and has been in operation for over 60 years. This past season, the Club had over 120 competitive swimmers and a rapidly growing Swim Academy program of 200 swimmers. Our Club operates at the world-class facility the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, as well as RH King Academy Pool and Wilfred Laurier Collegiate Pool - all located in Scarborough.

The Swim Academy is SCAR’s precompetitive program for ages 6-12. We are looking for enthusiastic Swim Instructors looking to join a great team of developing young swimmers. Instructors will teach within the Academy curriculum guidelines, offering hands-on and in-water instruction to participants. Swim Instructors will communicate on a regular basis with the Swim Academy Coordinator, Instructors, Club Staff, Parents, and Swimmers. Will you help develop a future Olympic swimmer?

Required Qualifications

  • 15 years of age or older
  • National Lifeguard certified (or Bronze Cross, with intent on attaining National Lifeguard)
  • Standard First Aid & CPR Level C certified
  • Prior lifeguarding and instructional experience an asset
  • Exceptional communication skills (staff, parents, swimmers)

Shifts are 2 nights per week for 2 1/2 hours on either Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday at any of our 3 locations. Lessons run from September 2019 to the end of June 2020. Successful candidates will attend all staff training as well as any required certification courses prior to the program start date in September 2019. Training costs are covered by the Club.

Swim Supervisors are compensated hourly. Wages vary between $15-18/hour based on qualifications and experience.
