Job Description
The Town of Orangeville Community Services Department is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Instructor/Guard. This is a part-time position, with a maximum of twenty-four (24) hours per week.
Duties of the position include:
- Provides instruction in aquatic programs or perform lifeguard services in accordance with standards, policies and procedures; be alert at all times to be prepared for emergencies; enforce pool facility policies, procedures, rules and regulations in a fair and consistent manner; maintain accurate records pertaining to lesson plans and report cards.
- Arrive at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to shift to check with supervisor to find out any pertinent information; ensures that the pool deck area is safe for all users and that emergency first aid equipment is in its proper place.
- Maintain a clean pool deck, pool equipment and change rooms.
- Install buoy lines and other equipment in pool as required for programs; ensure adequate equipment is available whenever lifeguarding.
- Participate in regular staff training programs, maintain aquatic certification and perform exercises in emergency situations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Some secondary school education
- Valid Standard First Aid/CPR C certification
- Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard – Pool
- Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor
- Lifesaving Instructor
- Lifesaving Society Emergency First Aid Instructor
- Must be a minimum of sixteen (16) years of age
- Knowledge of Aquatic provincial legislation and health and safety legislation.
- Up to six (6) months previous experience instructing and lifeguarding aquatic programs
- Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check, including but not limited to a Vulnerable Sector Check in accordance with the duties of this position.
Hourly Range: $17.82 to $20.85, Band 2 on the Town’s 2022 Pay Grid
