Accreditation

The Lifesaving Society's aquatic safety accreditation program is designed to enhance public safety and reduce the risk of water-related incidents in aquatic facilities.

Accreditation results from an inspection process in which the Lifesaving Society assesses an aquatic facility’s operation and acknowledges that the pool or waterfront has met the safety standards dictated by Ontario regulations, guidelines and protocols, and those established by the Lifesaving Society.

BENEFITS

Aquatic facility owners / operators seek accreditation because it:

  • assists in evaluating whether the facility is operating to a safe standard
  • enhances community confidence because the facility meets accepted standards of operation
  • demonstrates your organization's commitment to reasonable safety standards
  • supports your organization's performance improvement efforts
  • assists your organization to meet provincial regulations, guidelines and protocols

INSPECTION vs. ACCREDITATION

Pool owners/operators are encouraged to ensure that their facilities are inspected on a regular basis. Lifesaving Society certified Inspectors should be utilized to complete these inspections. The Aquatic Safety Inspection Report provides pool owners/operators with the information they may use to address concerns in the aquatic facility. These inspections also help pool owners/operators prepare for accreditation.
