NLS Instructor

The NLS Instructor Course provides candidates with an understanding of the principles and practices on which the NLS program is based. The course explores teaching approaches and techniques appropriate for NLS candidates.

After successful completion of the course, NLS Instructors are certified to teach the National Lifeguard Service course.

Prerequisites: National Lifeguard (any option) and Lifesaving Instructor and Advanced Instructor certification s (need not be current). Do you have the prerequisites to take this course?

Evaluation & certification: NLS Instructor Trainers teach, evaluate and certify NLS Instructors. The Lifesaving Society deems its certifications to be "current" for 24 months from the certification date.

Course length: Minimum 12-16 hr. classroom and water time.

Reference materials required: Alert: lifeguarding in action and National Lifeguard Instructor Pac which includes: National Lifeguard Award Guide, NLS Standards DVD, Guide to Ontario Public Pools Regulation, and Lifesaving Images Binder.

Costs: In addition to the required reference materials, a certification fee is payable to the Lifesaving Society. Course organizers charge a fee to cover the costs of running the course.

Recertification: Instructors remain current by recertifying within 24 months of the last certification date. Recertification is through the Society's professional development credit system. Is it time to recertify?
