Community Lifeguard Training

Job Description

ActivNation programs to engage Indigenous communities in healthy active living. Our goal is to provide more opportunities for more community members to lead a healthy and active lifestyle!
Our Fall & Winter programs work with Indigenous communities located 6.5 hours’ drive from the Ottawa region. Our programs are developed for youth aged 7-21 in a variety of sports.

The focus of this aquatic instructor position will be pool activities for youth & adults, as well as leading and mentoring local lifeguards.

Responsibilities:

  • Train local monitors and lifeguards in the pool to take Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross and National Lifeguard certifications.
  • Lead pool fitness classes and provide instruction to participants
  • Work with community youth to provide engaging aquatics programs
  • Work with community adults for intro to fitness and low-impact aquatics training programs
  • Demonstrate proper form and technique for exercises
  • Ensure a safe and clean workout environment for all participants
  • Motivate and encourage participants to achieve their fitness goals
  • Monitor participants' progress and adjust as needed
  • Manage Facebook page, registrations and community outreach
  • Oversee aquatics operations for the local pool, and communicate with maintenance for all facility needs

Required Qualifications

Experience:

  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • National Lifeguard & Bronze Cross certification
  • Aquatics Instructor or Aqua fitness certification an asset
  • Ability to effectively lead a group and provide individualized attention
  • Knowledge of various exercise techniques and equipment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skill
  • National Lifeguard Trainer or Examiner certification an asset

Program Overview:

  • January 20th 2024 start date
  • Must be able to travel and stay in the community for extended periods of 12 weeks. (Located 6.5 Hours from Ottawa & Montreal)
  • 6 weeks of holidays throughout the year.
  • All accommodations covered
  • Travel covered to and from Community – Drive ($.575 KM) or Flights
  • Approx. 30-40 hours per week
  • 1-2 Weekends per month
  • Commensurate Weekly Pay with Food Allowances
  • Approx. $1,250 per week – dependent on experience
  • 1-year contract with the possibility of renewal
