Are you a qualified Bronze Medallion & Bronze Cross instructor with a passion to inspire and guide youth to become strong leaders and lifesavers?
Are you passionate about creating a safe space where everyone can feel like they belong? Do you love teaching others lifesaving and swimming skills? Do you want to gain new skills and have the best summer of your life?!
If this describes you, join our team and make an impact in the lives of our campers for years to come!
The YMCA of Cambridge & Kitchener-Waterloo is one of the community’s largest non-profit organizations. Last year alone we impacted the lives of nearly 100,000 people across Waterloo Region, connecting them to each other, their health, and their potential.
YMCA Camp Belwood offers a variety of exciting and enriching camping experiences to children and youth in our community including an overnight summer camp and day camp.
Located on Belwood Lake, just outside the town of Fergus, Ontario, Belwood sits on a 3-acre site hosting approximately 80 campers per session, 30 day campers and 40 staff members. Camp Belwood offers one week overnight sessions, a small day camp and an LIT program.
What you will do…
Foster a place of belonging and inclusion for all as you help give campers some of the best experiences of their lives. Create lasting memories and lifelong friendships with your peers working and living together in close quarters. Stretch your team building and problem solving abilities while you work together navigating a constantly changing environment.
Our Lifeguards and Bronze Medallion and Cross Instructors have the incredible opportunity to make genuine connections with youth ages 14-16 years of age during their four week LIT program at camp. Play an important role as a positive role model and coach. Help create a fun and engaging atmosphere while inspiring these youth to push boundaries, make new friends and develop new skills. Residential camp staff live on site throughout the summer with accommodations and meals provided.
What you will bring…
If you are fun, energetic and willing to be silly then camp is for you! Counselors should come to camp eager to learn, with a camper-focused mindset. You should be resilient, hard working, inclusive, responsible, and work well within a team. You are committed to creating an inclusive and safe space for all. You will hold your National Lifeguard certificate and be a current Lifesaving Instructor.
What you will gain…
You gain independence and develop leadership skills as you find your place in our camp community. Benefit from a variety of opportunities to show compassion, gain resiliency, practice empathy, develop responsibility, improve communication, and foster emotional maturity. Experience a sense of fulfilment and pride while influencing the lives of youth in our community.
