Job Description

Reports Directly To: Aquatics Supervisor, Desk Supervisors, Sports & LeisureDome Manager

Direct Reports: Head Lifeguards, Lifeguards & Instructors

Job Summary: To assist the Aquatics Supervisor oversee all pool related activities and coordinate maintenance with the facility staff. Striving to maintain high quality educational programs as well as a high degree of safety in and around the pools at all times and setting goals outside the instructional program to promote increased pool usage. Your main duties and responsibilities include assisting the Aquatics Supervisor with training, supervising and evaluating lifeguards, and swim instructors to ensure high product quality pool operations. Provide direction, supervision and leadership to part-time staff members while ensuring operating standards are in accordance with department policies and procedures the Ontario Health Regulations and Lifesaving Society standards.


Pool Deck Supervisor

  • Pool deck supervisor is responsible for assisting in the operation and presentation of our pools.
  • Monitor and coach staff, while on duty
  • Deliver the highest level of customer service and consistency to both members and guests. Pool deck supervisor and aquatics team members will ensure the best department appearance with a focus on safety to achieve the best guest experiences.
  • Maintain professional and confidential relationships between management staff and the direct staff they will be supervising
  • Perform all assigned duties and other duties as assigned (including but not limited to):
  • Supervision of staff
    • Maintain complete vigilance while on duty and be ready to respond to any emergency situation
    • Assist in providing ongoing supervision, leadership, coaching and recognition to staff and volunteers
    • Assist in the development of trainings and ongoing coaching and feedback
    • Implement and deliver ongoing communication with both lifeguards and supervisory staff
    • Understand and adhere to company, departmental and facility policies and procedures
    • Assist in making sure that all other staff understand, adhere to and enforce all policies, & procedures for all participants and staff
    • Perform in accordance to the Aquatics Supervisor and the facility Supervisors/Managers on duty roles and responsibilities as required
    • Assist in the evaluation of training needs, and assist in the execution of staff trainings, orientations and meetings
    • Assist in ensuring the facility is properly maintained in cleanliness and appearance and is safe for guests
    • Assists in training team members through shadowing, direction and feedback of lifeguard critiques
    • Assisting to ensure that all aquatic staff members comply with all company safety rules, policies and procedures
  • Administration
    • Assist in ensuring program plans are created, communicated and available for all staff
    • Assist in ensuring mid-session and final progress reports are completed by staff
    • Assist with ongoing monitoring of staff certifications, ensuring staff certifications remain current
  • Customer Service and Community Development
    • Ensure aquatic team members provide a safe, organized, fun and friendly environment for the guests
    • Provide exceptional customer service and meets the guests’ needs and expectations
    • Assist with the delivering of strategies to increase customer recruitment and retention through continuous improvement of the customer experience
  • Program Development and Delivery
    • Instruct the learn to swim programs and such other swimming skills as required
    • Assist in the continuous observation of swimming lessons to ensure a quality assurance of each program
    • Provide continuous, positive corrective feedback to students and parents on their swimming efforts
    • Assist in ensuring swimmer safety and that all instructors are following program plans
    • Maintain an understanding of department programs and services
    • Attend meetings/trainings as required
  • Pool Operations
    • Documentation of accurate records of all pool operations and maintenance
    • Ensure daily logbook is updated and accurate with pool information
    • Ensures that all staff are using safety devices and personal protection when required
    • Reports any accidents/incidents to supervisor as soon as possible
    • Monitor the use of equipment and supplies, conduct inventory counts and relay the needed items to the Aquatic Supervisor
    • Report all concerns, accidents, and incidents to the immediate Supervisor for follow up and take appropriate action
  • Provide support as a lifeguard/instructor, when necessary

Required Qualifications

  • Standard First Aid/CPR
  • National Lifeguard – Pool
  • Lifesaving Instructor
  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor
  • Previous Head Lifeguard experience
  • Advanced instructors / Bronze Examiner – an asset
