The Opportunity:
Join our team as a Lifeguard for the 2025-26 academic year! We're seeking part-time Lifeguards to work 4-16 hours per week in the state-of-the-art pool within our Athletic and Wellness Centre. Reporting into the Aquatic Leads, you'll be part of a motivated and certified aquatics team, ensuring the safety and quality of our programming. Shifts will vary on weekdays and weekends to support our curricular and auxiliary programs, and the contract will have the opportunity to renew based on performance and programming needs.
Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Ensuring the safety of all patrons using the Athletics and Wellness Centre’s swimming pools
- Provide support to the Deck Supervisor, Swim Instructor, classroom teachers and physical education teachers in the delivery of the curricular swim program from JK - Grade 10
- Provide support for all students and swimmers during any aquatic programming occurring within the pool
- Participate in weekly co-curricular pool programs for students and staff
- Alert the Deck Supervisor and respond to any emergency situations, following established protocols, then reporting all incidents and concerns to the Aquatic Leads
- Maintain direct contact with swimmers and communicate with them in an effective manner
- Provide on-call coverage for programming as required
- Assist in the supervision of students in change rooms, and support as needed
- Ensure that the pool area is kept well organized and adheres to all safety regulations
- Provide a high level of customer service to all participants and families, communicating effectively by providing information about the program and related policies and procedures
- Act as the first responder in case of an emergency and provide First Aid as needed throughout the pool area
- Enforce and ensure all patrons are adhering to pool policies, procedures, and safety regulations
- Monitor designated pool areas and is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the pool deck, changing rooms and shower facilities (e.g. picking up equipment and safely storing it, picking up towels and debris etc.)
- Performs maintenance and related work to ensure the pool deck and equipment are clean and well-maintained for use, as required
- Complete mandatory staff training before every Fall (October-December), Winter (January-March), Spring (April-June) session
Required Qualifications
- Current National Lifeguard Certification, Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED Certification (issued from Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross, St John’s Ambulance, or Canadian Ski Patrol)
- Must possess knowledge of the rules and regulation governing safety in an indoor pool facility
- Previous experience as a lifeguard is an asset
- Must be able to maintain National Lifeguard skills (ie. brick carry, time swim, etc)
- Experience working with children and youth
- Ability to collaborate with a range of stakeholders and is a strong team player
- Ability to build rapport with students and adults
