Position Title: Deck Supervisor

Reports to: Coordinator, Aquatic & Leadership Programs

Job Type: Temporary Contract, Summer

Hours: 35 hours per week

Location: Variety Village, Scarborough ON

Salary: $24.00-$25.00 per hour based on experience and      qualifications

Summary:

The Deck Supervisor plays a key leadership role in ensuring the safety, quality, and smooth operation of all swim camp activities at Variety Village. This position oversees deck staff, supports swim instructors, and ensures campers have a positive, inclusive aquatic experience. The Deck Supervisor serves as the primary on-deck leader, maintaining high standards of safety, organization, and customer service, while supporting staff and collaborating with camp and aquatics leadership.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Oversee all aquatic programming for Jr. Swim Camp and Swim Camp.

· Ensure Head, Jr. Head, and Support Staff responsibilities are being met consistently.

· Monitor and follow up on staff attendance, documentation, notes, and daily reporting.

· Ensure timely and accurate completion of swim report cards.

· Support and oversee parent and caregiver communication related to swim camp programming.

· Supervise all deck activity, including camper arrival, pool entry/exit, and end-of-day transitions.

· Oversee changeroom operations, ensuring safety, supervision, and smooth flow.

· Support staff with camper transitions, group organization, and behaviour management.

· Ensure aquatic activities are delivered in a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable manner.

· Act as the on-deck lead for problem-solving, schedule adjustments, and real-time decision-making.

· Support emergency response procedures and follow all aquatic safety protocols.

· Collaborate closely with Program Coordinators, lifeguards, and camp leadership.

· Maintain strong oversight of ratios, supervision standards, and pool safety expectations.

· Model professionalism, leadership, and inclusive practices at all times.

· Other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational needs.

Required Qualifications

· Experience in a supervisory role within an aquatics or camp setting.

· Experience working in integrated or adaptive programming environments.

· Strong knowledge of pool operations, including staffing rotations, fouling procedures, and camp scheduling.

· Valid certifications in Standard First Aid with CPR-C, National Lifeguard, and Swim Instructor (required).

· Experience working with individuals with disabilities.

· Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

· Calm, confident decision-making in dynamic and emergency situations.

· Dependable, professional, and proactive approach to work.

· Willingness to participate in CPI, Plan to Protect, and other required training.

· Commitment to following all organizational policies and procedures.
