The 2011 Water Smart Contest was a great success. We awarded
prizes to three provincial winners (8-12 year-old category only).

2012 Water Smart Contest
We need your help with the 2012 Water
Smart Contest. The purpose of the contest is to spread
the Society's Water Smart messages, which in turn will help save
lives.
The Water Smart Contest is easy is to
do, it can be implemented during Drowning Prevention Week (July
21-29), or offered during a day camp, or host a special Water Smart
Contest day at your facility. It's flexible, and can
be implemented in any way - whatever works for your
community.
It's doesn't require a lot of time or
planning. Summer staff can run it as a fun summer
project.
Buddy the Lifeguard Dog T-shirts are
available as prizes for first place winners. Additional prizes
for 2nd and 3rd place winners can also be added by your
community.
Who can participate?
Children 7 and under are invited to
colour the lifejacket on the colouring sheet provided by the
Lifesaving Society.
8-12 year olds are asked to create a
comic strip using one of the following Water Smart
messages:
- Swim with a Buddy
- Always wear you Lifejacket
- Swim to Survive - how to survive an unexpected fall into
deep water
How it works
Affiliate Members of the Society can
contact the Ontario Branch office for a free 2012 Water Smart
Contest kit.
Just complete a contest order form, send
it into the branch office before August 3, 2012
and receive a complete contest kit that includes everything you
need to run the contest including Buddy T-shirts.
The facility judges entries in each age
category. Local winners in each age category will be
awarded a Buddy T-shirt by their local pool or facility.
Winning entries in the 8-12 age group
sent to the Lifesaving Society office prior to September
28, 2012 will be judged and provincial winners will be
selected from all of the entries submitted.
The provincial prizes are as
follows:
1st place: Provincial winner will
receive $100 to spend at the Lifesaving Society store.
The 2nd and 3rd place provincial winners
will each receive $25 to spend at the Lifesaving Society
store.
