Job Description

Swim Instructor Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare program teaching material and equipment.
  • Prepare program outlines, lesson plans and material for participants as required.
  • Start and end program on time.
  • Ensure that instruction/leadership is provided at the appropriate skill level for participants.
  • Maintain a clean, healthy, and safe environment for the program and ensure equipment is stored away properly.
  • Store teaching materials.
  • Complete course rosters and report cards in a timely manner


Lifeguard Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be aware and alert of patron safety at all times.
  • Understand emergency procedures and carry through appropriate actions.
  • Enforce policies and guidelines in a tactful and pleasant manner and build rapport with members and guests.
  • Read and understand the orientation guide and ensure quality customer service is delivered within the context of the organization’s standards.
  • Be visible to patrons at all times and in full uniform {one-piece bathing suit, whistle, guard      shirt} while on duty.
  • Ensure scanning coverage of the pool at all times while on duty.
  • Be well informed of the Aquatic programs and lesson information relaying it to guests and members as required.
  • Be aware of all scheduled shifts and obtain prior approval from the Aquatic Supervisor if unable to meet, or need to change, scheduled times.
  • Ensure pool area is safe at all times and report any concerns or deficiencies immediately to management.
  • Record pertinent information in the pool log book for all other shifts, allowing linked communication and ongoing awareness.
  • Communicate any problems or concerns to the Aquatic Supervisor immediately and follow up any concerns and problems.
  • Perform and document ALL opening and closing duties on the Daily Pool Report.
  • Provide yearly copies of your current qualifications to the Aquatic Supervisor.
  • Complete incident reports as required and notify the Supervisor on Duty.
  • Be a positive role model to guests, members, and fellow co-workers by following all rules and regulations of the Aquatics Centre while in the facility - on and off duty.
  • Keep the pool deck clean, including the buoy line, equipment room, slide etc.
  • Work together as a team to provide a positive and professional, safe environment for the guests
  • and members.
  • Read, understand and follow all procedures stated in the Staff Manual.
  • Perform all duties assigned by the Aquatic Supervisor.

Required Qualifications

Specialized Skills

  • Excellent customer service and guest relation skills.
  • Flexible with schedule.

Education and Certification

Essential -

  • Current National Lifeguard - Pool
  • Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor & Lifesaving instructor
  • Current First Aid/CPR.
