Job Description

Can Swim Academy is a private swim school in Newmarket and are looking to hire part time swim instructors to join us for the Fall and Winter Session.  Instructors must be available to teach lessons for children and adults on Saturday's and Sunday's from 9 am - 3 pm (or any part of) and/or one weeknight from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm starting in September 2022. The instructor must be able to commit to a 11-12 week Fall Session or a 9 week Winter Session.

*This instructor position has an hourly start rate of $30 to $35 based on experience*

Primary Responsibilities: Swim Instructor

Safe and effective instruction of swim classes as assigned.

Teach correct progressions for the assigned level

Screening of participants in classes and move to appropriate level if necessary.

Keep records of participant’s attendance throughout series of lessons.

Provide feedback on participant’s progress when requested.

Performance of water rescue and first aid when necessary.

Complete accident and incident reports when necessary.


Shifts Currently Available (but not limited to)

Mondays/Thursdays/Fridays 4:00-7:30pm, Starting the week of Sept 19 or 26

Saturday/Sunday 9:00-3:00pm (or any part of, Starting week of Sept 24 or Oct 1

The Fall Session is a 12-13 week set and the last day of lessons will be Friday, December 16.

The Winter Session will run January 8 thru March 10, 2023 (9 weeks)

Required Qualifications

The candidate is required to have experience working with instructing children and adults on swimming techniques and completing swimming levels, a good communicator, reliable, dependable, punctual, and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.


The candidate must have the following certificates:

CPR with AED skills, Lifesaving Instructor, Swim Instructor, Emergency First Aid Instructor, National Lifeguard-Pool, Valid Standard First Aidwith CPR-C certification

Must be a minimum of sixteen (16) years of age

Up to six (6) months previous experience instructing and lifeguarding aquatic programs

Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check, including but not limited to a Vulnerable Sector Check in accordance with the duties of this position.
