Job Description
Camp Tamarack has earned the confidence and loyalty of thousands of campers, parents and staff. Tamarack’s large private property in Bracebridge, Muskoka, surrounding a pristine Ontario lake, is the magical setting for the building of skills, friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
Camp Tamarack has a unique, challenging and fun premise that is appealing to campers and parents. We provide our 6 to 16-year-old campers with an exciting and unparalleled overnight summer camp experience. We strive not only to expose them to an amazing blend of opportunities and programs, but also to build each camper’s self-esteem, confidence and independence. The values of respect, responsibility and perseverance are incorporated into all aspects of camp life. Teaching campers to be team players as an integral part of the Tamarack community goes hand in hand with recognizing that each camper is an individual with unique needs and goals.
The Camp’s Swim program consists of 6/7 days of instructional swim in addition to recreational swim opportunities. Tamarack is looking for a Head of Swim who will:
- lead 2 Assistant Heads of Swim and 10 other swim staff to instruct the Lifesaving Swim Program and guard the swim docks during recreational swim
- work Cooperatively with separate beach staff to guard a different part of the waterfront that has inflatables and land activities
- prepare and train staff
- coordinate campers swim classes
- oversee camper progress and final reports
- oversee campers and staff swim testing
- adhere to public health and camp safety guielines
- oversee and may teach/examine advanced certifciations for campers
- take on other head staff responsibilities in Camp
- parent communication where necessary,
- work cooperatively and with fellow waterfront activity heads (such as paddle, wind, ski, wake, outdoor rec)
Camp Season: June 22-August 17

Salary: Season salary (not hourly rate) Based on experience and certifications
Required Qualifications
The candidate must possess the following current certifications:
- Lifesaving Instructor & Lifesaving Swim Instructors
- National Lifeguard
- Standard First Aid/CPR C
- Examiners (up to Bronze Cross)
- Standard First Aid/CPR C Instructor/Examiner - an asset
- Lifesaving & Swim Instructor Trainer/Examiner - an asset
The Candidate must also have the following attributes:
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to lead and work in a team environment
- Organized and ability to multi-task
- Experience working on a waterfront
- Loves the outdoors and wants an opportunity to work in an awesome community and further build experience and skills
