Job Description
The Aquatic Head Guard position serves as a resource, to provide a safe aquatic environment by supporting the operational requirements of the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre, Earl Haig Family Fun Park, Woodman Park Pool, and other recreational facilities throughout the City. This essential member of the Aquatics & Fitness Team will be responsible for preventing aquatic accidents through controlling, educating, and influencing patron and staff behaviour through the execution of emergency procedures and continually enforcing all pool and facility rules. The Aquatic Head Guard will monitor and ensure the smooth safe running of all pool deck activities including swimming lessons, recreational swims, and swim rentals. In this role, the candidate will take pride in their workplace by providing excellent customer service and assists with maintaining a clean environment.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Attend all mandatory scheduled meetings and staff trainings for continued staff development
- Ability to perform lifeguarding fitness and rescue skills at or above the National Lifeguard standard; and maintains current certifications during employment
- Execute calmly and effectively the facilities emergency procedures in the event of an emergency
- Ability to demonstrate judgment and knowledge in alignment with the City of Brantford's policies and procedures
- Interact with the public and staff to provide program information
- Must possess good communication and public relations skills as well as a positive professional attitude and the ability to work in a team environment
- Administrative duties including filling out reports (incident reports, opening/closing procedures, inventory check, pool fouling reports, etc.), using computer applications such as word, excel and ActiveNet. Ability to read and update pool log book, complete shift reports, create signs and spreadsheets, as needed.
- To ensure provisions of government regulations are respected at all times, and to ensure that their responsibilities to the employer and to all patrons are met to provide a safe, enjoyable aquatic experience for all.
- Complete all other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Age 16 years
- Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification, Standard First Aid (CPR "C" level), Lifesaving Swim Instructor and Lifesaving Instructor
- Minimum 2 years of experience on the pool deck;
- Current Lifesaving Society Examiners (Bronze, Standard First Aid, and/or National Lifeguard), and Lifesaving Society Instructor (National Lifeguard and/or Standard First Aid Instructor)
- Certified in Lifesaving Society Examiners, Lifesaving Aquatic Supervisor and Pool Operator is considered an asset;
- Previous experience working in a recreation setting is an asset
- Current Police Clearance Certificate required
