Job Description
Reporting to the Director or Assistant Director, the Head of Swim is an integral part of the Supervisor Team and shares responsibility for planning, implementing, and overseeing an inclusive and camper-focused camp program and culture. The Head of Swim directly supervises all Pool activities( swim lessons, free swim and "pool parties"), ensuring a safe and camper-focused experience.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review inventory and supply list from the previous summer and make recommendations to Directors for new equipment and/or pool supplies
- Pre-camp planning with lifeguards/swim staff for program instruction and safety procedures
- Train and orient the entire staff team during pre-camp to educate them on procedures, practices, regulations, and rules of the entire pool operation
- Ensure the swim lessons run SAFELY and smoothly
- Ensure that the swim lessons are challenging, of high quality, creative and safe for campers of all ages and abilities
- Proactively identify and solve problems and areas of concern
- Meet regularly with the pool staff
- Supervise and evaluate the pool staff on a regular basis, both formally and informally based upon their personal goals and job description. Provide them with a written and oral evaluation twice during their summer contract - once after week 2, and again before the last day of camp
- Be responsible for seeing that all waterfront equipment is properly stored during the day and secured at night
- Maintain equipment in a good, safe condition
- Act as a head lifeguard, ensuring adequate supervision and safe practices by supervisors and staff
- Assume lead role in water rescues and provide professional first aid when needed
Required Qualifications
- National Lifeguard Certification
- Swim Instructor Certification
