Technology Chair - Volunteer Position

Job Description

The Lifesaving Society is a national volunteer organization and registered charity. We are a full- service provider of programs, products and services designed to prevent drowning. We save lives and prevent water-related injury through our training programs, Water Smart public education, drowning research, aquatic safety management and lifesaving sport.

The Lifesaving Society Ontario Branch invites applications for the Technology Chair - Safety Standards Council.

Purpose: To provide leadership for the Lifesaving Society Ontario on initiatives as they relate to technology and its application in the safe management and operation of aquatic facilities.

Term of Office: Appointed by the Board of Directors to the Safety Standards Council for a term of two years.

Reporting Relationship:

  • To the Safety Standards Council as scheduled.
  • To the Board of Directors as required.

Responsibilities:

  1. Establish objectives and annual action plans for the Chair’s portfolio.
  2. Manage approved projects within pre-set budget limits and new product development guidelines.
  3. Chair the portfolio’s committee including:
    • Recruit committee members.
    • Assign responsibilities.
    • Recognize volunteer committee members.
  4. Attend Safety Standards Council meetings as scheduled and the Annual General Meeting.
  5. Report to Safety Standards Council as scheduled on the status of the portfolio’s annual objectives.
  6. Prepare an annual report on the portfolio’s accomplishments.

Required Qualifications

Possession of the following knowledge, skills and experience will enable the
selected applicant to perform the major job functions successfully.
  • Proven experience, knowledge of or interest in technological initiatives related to safety management and operation of aquatic facilities.
  • Experience in chairing meetings with volunteer groups or associations.
  • Strong leadership skills and collaborative work ethic.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
