The Opportunity
In this role you will be working closely with our aquatic and management team. You’ll support the success of our swim programs by supervising lessons, guiding instructors, and ensuring a fun, safe, and supportive environment for all.

Responsibilities

Program Management and Reporting/Documentation
  • Supervise and support swimming lessons to ensure quality and consistency of instructors and programs
  • Perform all duties of an Instructor/Lifeguard
  • Review lesson plans and swimmer progress evaluations on an ongoing basis
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of progress sheets and report cards
  • Assist with the accuracy of swimmer levels in the system and follow up on discrepancies
  • Communicate class or Instructor changes and make-up lessons to the Manager and Head Instructor
  • Assign instructors to classes and ensure class assignments are accurate in the system
  • Prepare reports for management on operational performance, safety incidents, and program outcomes
  • Maintain accurate records of pool usage, incidents, and maintenance activities
Client Relations
  • Deliver a high standard of customer service to participants and families
  • Remain visible and approachable to parents and staff during programs
  • Confirm swimmer levels with parents, resolving any discrepancies, and maintaining clear and open communication with them
  • Address customer concerns professionally and escalate unresolved issues to the appropriate level
Safety & Risk Management
  • Ensure the safety of all facility users by enforcing established safety protocols, emergency procedures, and lifeguarding standards
  • Conduct regular safety drills, inspections, and audits to maintain compliance with safety regulations
  • Keep the daily log complete and accurate
  • Set up and remove bins, lane ropes, and equipment, checking for safety and proper repair of lifesaving equipment during each shift
  • Report malfunctioning equipment immediately and remove unsafe items from use
Staff Leadership
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment, encouraging teamwork and professional development
  • Assist the Manager with Instructor evaluations and provide constructive feedback, identifying opportunities for improvement and growth
  • Mentor and support Instructors, Head Instructors, and Trainees
  • Assist in conducting regular staff training sessions to enhance instructional skills, CPR/First Aid certification, lifesaving and rescue skills, and customer service abilities
  • Recognize and reward exceptional Instructor performance to motivate and promote growth
Facility Care
  • Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility including pool water quality, equipment, pool deck, washroom checks, cleaning, and disinfecting
  • Conduct pool chemistry tests and maintain proper chemical balance
  • Carry out pool vacuuming and fouling clean-up as required

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience in swim instruction
  • Current Lifesaving Society's Swim Instructor or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certifications
  • Current Standard First Aid Certification
  • Current National Lifeguard Certification
  • Current Splash N’ Learn Instructor Certification
  • Must attend and successfully complete related mandatory and sessional training sessions
  • Acceptable police check for vulnerable sector
