The Aquatic Instructor/Lifeguard position serves as a resource, to provide a safe aquatic environment by supporting the operational requirements of the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre, Earl Haig Family Fun Park, Woodman Park Pool, and other recreational facilities throughout the City. This essential member of the Aquatics & Fitness Team will actively lifeguard the facility, instruct Learn to Swim and Swim to Survive, and provide water safety education to all customers and the community. The Aquatic Instructor/Lifeguard works closely with other staff & volunteers. In this role, the candidate will take pride in their workplace by providing excellent customer service and assists with maintaining a clean environment.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Attend all mandatory scheduled meetings and staff training for continued staff development
- Ability to perform lifeguarding fitness and rescue skills at or above the National Lifeguard standard; and maintains current certifications during employment
- Must possess good communication and public relations skills as well as a positive professional attitude and the ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to demonstrate judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness up to National Lifeguard standards
- Completes work related tasks during off rotations including pool deck maintenance and administrative support
- Complete all other duties as assigned
WAGE/SALARY RANGE: $19.91 to $23.42 per hour (up to 24 hours per week)
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Age 15 years
- Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification, Standard First Aid (CPR "C" level), Lifesaving Swim Instructor and Lifesaving Instructor
- Current Bronze examiner, National Lifeguard Instructor, and First Aid Instructor is considered an asset
- Previous experience working in a recreation setting is an asset
- Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required
- Flexible work hours including frequent daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday work periods. Instructors receive a $2.00 premium when instructing classes. Occasional overtime work is required.
