Job Description
The Lifesaving Society is a national volunteer organization and registered charity. We are a full- service provider of programs, products and services designed to prevent drowning. We save lives and prevent water-related injury through our training programs, Water Smart public education, drowning research, aquatic safety management and lifesaving sport.
The Lifesaving Society Ontario Branch invites applications for the volunteer Leadership Chair.
Purpose: To provide leadership for the Lifesaving Society on matters related to Lifesaving Leadership.
Term of Office: Elected to the Leadership Council at the Lifesaving Society’s Annual General Meeting for a term of two years.
Reporting Relationship:
To the Lifesaving Leadership Council.
To the Board of Directors as required.
To the Lifesaving Society, Ontario Branch membership annually.
Responsibilities:
1. Work with the Leadership Activity Centre Council to determine objectives on matters related to Leadership.
2. Manage approved leadership projects within pre-set budget limits and new product development guidelines including;
- Development of new courses within the leadership competency framework
- Updating existing programs and resources to support the leadership program
- Development of new resources in accordance with new policies, regulations, or social environments
3. Responsible for development of policy and procedures as needed.
4. Work with other activity centre councils in development of resources to support programming.
5. Represent the needs of Lifesaving Instructors, Coaches, Examiners, Trainers and National Trainers.
6. Provide training and lead sessions on new initiatives as needed.
7. Chair committees as needed including
- Recruitment of committee members
- Assignment of responsibilities and ensuring completion of projects
- Recognition of volunteer committee members
8. Attend Leadership Activity Centre Council, Lifesaving Society Council meetings as scheduled and the Annual General Meeting. Represent Leadership Council at Council of Officer meetings as needed.
9. Report to the Leadership Activity Centre Council as scheduled on the status of established objectives.
10. Research and develop new teaching and learning techniques based on best practices.
Required Qualifications
Skills and Experience: Possession of the following knowledge, skills and experience will enable the selected applicant to perform the job functions successfully.
- Must be an experienced Trainer with multiple Trainer designations. National Trainer status would be considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of the leadership framework including instructors, coaches, examiners and trainer programs.
- Commitment to completing projects for the further development of Lifesaving Society leadership.
- Strong organizational skills and work ethic.
- Ability to lead committees.
- Exceptional teamwork.
