Lifeguards

Job Description

Reporting to the Superintendent, the lifeguards are responsible for providing a clean and safe recreational area for guests. Responsibilities:

1. Ensure that all lifeguarding , Health Unit, GRCA best practices and and safety procedures are adhered to for the operation of the pool and the safety of the patrons using the facility.

2. Perform swim tests for children 9 years and younger to identify non-swimmers.

3. Perform daily maintenance to ensure cleanliness of the pool, pool deck, surrounding area, washrooms and change rooms.

4. Have proficient knowledge of emergency procedures and use of equipment.

5. Provide assistance to all guests/staff and ensure their safety at all times.

6. Enforce pool and park regulations. Follow GRCA policies and procedures.

7. Complete the daily pool log sheet, including pre-opening checks, pool maintenance and scheduled water checks.

8. Responsible for reporting all incidents/accidents/ hazards and maintenance issues and concerns to the Superintendent or designate.

9. Carry out all assigned duties in accordance with accepted safety practices of GCRA

10. Provide quality customer service.

11. Maintain a thorough knowledge of park facilities and activities.

Required Qualifications

1. Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student

2. Must possess National Lifeguard Certification by start-date.

3. Must possess Valid First Aid and CPR certification by start-date.

4. Ability to demonstrate leadership skills and problem-solving skills.

5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

6. Ability to take initiative and work independently and within a team environment.

7. Good interpersonal skills

8. The drive and passion to work weekends, shifts and holidays with minimum supervision.

All successful applicants must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and be available to work the duration of the season, 40 hours per week. The GRCA offers comprehensive health and safety training.

Work Period:June to Labour Day 2026 Pay Rate: $20.50 per hour Shift: Weekends, Day and Evening Shifts, Statutory Holidays All successful applicants must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and be available to work assigned shifts for the duration of the season.
