Job Description

The Lifesaving Society is a national volunteer organization and registered charity. We are a full-service provider of programs, products and services designed to prevent drowning. We save lives and prevent water-related injury through our training programs, Water Smart public education, drowning research, aquatic safety management and lifesaving sport.The Lifesaving Society Ontario Branch invites applications for the volunteer position Resource Development Chair on Training Program Council.

Purpose
To provide leadership for the Lifesaving Society, Ontario Branch on matters related to the development of deliverable resources

Term of Reference
Appointed by the Board of Directors to the Program Council for a term of two years.

Reporting Relationship
To the Board of Directors as required.
To the Program Council as scheduled.

Responsibilities
  1. Establish objectives and an annual action plan for matters related to the facilitation of program resource development.
  2. Manage approved projects within pre-set budget limits and new product development guidelines for resource-based approved projects:
    • Develop videos, instructional resources, and other program content.
    • Work with other program chairs on the development of resources.
    • Be comfortable developing resources in multiple formats, or have a strong understanding of multiple formats.
  3. Support the development and maintenance of resources for all program delivery methods (online, blended, and in-person):
    • Create program content for instructional resources (e.g. lesson plans, instructional videos, etc.) for other training program chairs.
    • Create program promotional resources (e.g. videos, posters, social media ads, etc.) for other training program chairs.
  4. Chair the Resource Development Committee, including:
    • Recruit and develop committee members as required.
    • Assign responsibilities.
    • Recognize volunteer committee members.
  5. Attend Program Council meetings as scheduled, as well as the Annual General Meeting.
  6. Report to Program Council as scheduled on the status of established objectives and action plan.
  7. Prepare an annual report on resource development activities and accomplishments.
  8. Liaise with national and provincial counterparts.

Required Qualifications

Skills and Experience:

Possession of the following knowledge, skills and experience will enable the selected applicant to perform the major functions successfully.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage deadline driven tasks.
  • Collaborative work ethic and willingness to seek relevant expertise.
  • Up-to-date with current and trending issues in aquatics.
  • Knowledge of Lifesaving Society programs and services.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills.
  • Familiarity using video editing design software would be an asset.
  • Experience with volunteer groups or associations would be an asset.
