Co-Chair for Toronto Areas T2, T4 and T5

Job Description

The Lifesaving Society is a national volunteer organization and registered charity. We are a full- serviceprovider of programs, products and services designed to prevent drowning. We save lives and preventwater-related injury through our training programs, Water Smart public education, drowning research,aquatic safety management and lifesaving sport.
The Lifesaving Society Ontario Branch invites applications for Area Co-Chairs for T2 (North York), T4(East York and T5 (Toronto West/York) areas in Toronto. We require 1 volunteer per area, looking for3 individuals.

Purpose: To provide representation and leadership for the Lifesaving Society-Ontario on matters related to thedesignated geographical area.
Term of Office: Appointed by the Board of Directors to the Area Service Council for a term of two years.
Reporting Relationship:
  • To the Area Service Council as required.
  • To the Board of Directors as required.
  • To the Council of Officers as required.
Responsibilities:
  1. Promote and support Lifesaving Society programs and services, including:
    • Build and maintain communication with affiliate members
    • Encourage new Affiliate memberships
    • Host and/or attend area/regional affiliate meetings
    • Keep personally up to date on Society programs and priorities
  2. Represent the area to the Society and the Society in the area, including:
    • Act as the Society's representative in the area with the support of the Lifesaving Society
    • Provide feedback to Council and Board on motions and initiatives as required
  3. Actively participate in the annual Area Chair Conference, including:
    • Set yearly objectives and strategies aligned with Branch priorities
    • Report on area activities and the status of objectives from the previous year
  4. Manage the Society in the area, including:
    • Work in collaboration with Co-Chair
    • Appoint and coordinate volunteers for events and Society initiatives
    • Nominate volunteers for Society awards
    • Communicate area personal to the office for are a records through the regular use of Inside Tracker
    • Approve Society Area expenditures
  5. Provide and support drowning prevention education and fundraising initiatives.
  6. Maintain leadership personnel sufficient to sustain the Society's training programs, including:
    • assess the need for leadership training
    • work with affiliates to certify new instructors, examiners and trainers
    • assist affiliates with securing examiners
    • appoint Examiner Mentors
  7. On request, sit as a member of the Ontario Certification Review Committee.
  8. Adhere to the Lifesaving Society- Ontario Volunteer Code of Contact
