Public Education Community Outreach Chair

Job Description

Purpose:
To provide leadership for the Lifesaving Society – Ontario in distributing public education messages to the public at community events and through community channels.
Term of Office:
Appointed by the Board of Directors to the Public Education Council for a term of two years.
Reporting Relationship:
To the Board of Directors as required.To the Public Education Council as scheduled.

Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and implement annual objectives and an action plan for Public Education – Community Outreach, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and Water Smart campaign goals.

  2. Oversee approved Community Outreach projects which include:
    • Coordinating and distributing Water Smart campaign materials
    • Encouraging and supporting the development of community-based drowning prevention coalitions
    • Promoting and encouraging the implementation of lifejacket loaner stations
    • Promoting and encouraging the delivery and implementation of the Newcomer Outreach program
    • Planning and participating in National Drowning Prevention Week and World Drowning Prevention Day events, activities, initiatives, etc.
    • Organizing logistics for community activities including, and not limited to, materials/resources, mascot, and display booth
    • Selecting and scheduling community activities that align with campaign targets
    • Identifying gaps and proposing new outreach opportunities, activities and initiatives
    • Building and maintaining partnerships with community organizations

  3. Chair the Community Outreach committee, which includes:
    • Recruiting and developing committee members as required
    • Assigning responsibilities
    • Leading and coordinating committee activities
    • Recognizing volunteer committee members

  4. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of outreach initiatives and recommend improvements

  5. Attend a minimum of two Public Education Council meetings per year, and the Annual General Meeting.

  6. Provide regular updates to the Public Education Council on objectives and progress, and prepare an annual report summarizing Community Outreach activities and achievements
