Assistant Facility Manager – Aquatics (Full-Time, Career Path)

Role Overview

The Assistant Facility Manager (AFM) is a full-time, career-focused leadership role at Brave Waves Swim School. This position is designed for experienced aquatics leaders seeking a long-term career in facility management, with a clear pathway toward becoming a Facility Manager.

The AFM is responsible for the day-to-day execution of Brave Waves operations, ensuring every department operates with consistency, accountability, and excellence. Working alongside the Facility Manager, this role combines deck leadership, team development, operational ownership, and strategic support to strengthen our Swim Instructor, Lifeguard, Leadership, and Front Desk teams.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Shift Excellence

  • Lead pre-shift briefings to set priorities, expectations, and safety focus.

  • Maintain a visible leadership presence on deck, modelling professionalism, urgency, and the Brave Waves standard.

  • Ensure safe, efficient, and consistent operations throughout every shift.

  • Address staffing, operational, and customer concerns confidently, escalating only when appropriate.

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain operational readiness at all times.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Coach, mentor, and develop Swim Instructors, Lifeguards, Front Desk staff, and emerging leaders.

  • Conduct regular coaching, accountability, and recognition conversations that build confident, independent teammates.

  • Support the development of Deck Managers and Supervisors into stronger leaders.

  • Foster a positive, accountable, and values-driven team culture.

Department Ownership

  • Support the day-to-day operations of the Swim Instructor, Lifeguard, Leadership, and Front Desk teams.

  • Monitor department health and proactively identify operational concerns before they become larger issues.

  • Ensure operational standards, communication, and follow-through remain consistent across all departments.

  • Support scheduling and staffing coordination to ensure efficient daily operations.

Planning & Strategic Support

  • Assist the Facility Manager in executing weekly operational priorities, strategic initiatives, and organizational goals.

  • Lead assigned projects by establishing timelines, coordinating tasks, monitoring progress, and delivering results.

  • Participate in weekly leadership meetings focused on operations, team development, and organizational improvement.

  • Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to strengthen systems, processes, and the overall Brave Waves experience.

Family Experience

  • Maintain a professional, welcoming, and consistent experience for every family.

  • Ensure families feel informed, supported, and valued.

  • Support the Front Desk team in delivering exceptional customer service and communication.

Reporting Structure

Reports to: Facility Manager

Works closely with the Facility Manager, Deck Managers, and Deck Supervisors to execute daily operations, develop teams, and support strategic initiatives. Final operational authority remains with the Facility Manager.

The Assistant Facility Manager role is part of Brave Waves' long-term leadership pathway. Individuals who demonstrate consistent operational leadership, sound judgment, strong people development, and strategic thinking will have the opportunity to advance into the Facility Manager role, taking ownership of facility operations, leadership development, organizational strategy, and overall program success.


Required Qualifications

  • Previous leadership experience in aquatics (Deck Supervisor, Deck Manager, or similar leadership role).

  • Current National Lifeguard and Standard First Aid certifications (or willingness to maintain them).

  • Strong communication, coaching, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop teammates and contribute to operational success.

  • Comfortable working full-time, including evenings and weekends.

  • Desire to build a long-term career in aquatics leadership and facility management.
