Megan Mackenzie, Carter Parham, Cole Bremner & Jack Gillespie - Orillia
Lifeguards Meagan Mackenzie, Carter Parham, Cole Bremner, and Jack Gillespie were on duty at Moose Beach on August 25, 2024, when they heard a loud crash just beyond the main entrance. The team sounded the alert, and Jack went to investigate. Just beyond the entrance, an SUV had collided with a truck at the intersection.
Jack quickly assessed the scene, climbing through crumpled cars, and discovered an unconscious victim without vital signs. He immediately signaled a major incident, calling for backup from his fellow guards. Cole and Carter gathered emergency equipment and headed to the scene while Meagan secured the waterfront and followed once the area was clear.
As firefighters and paramedics arrived and began providing advanced care, including CPR and defibrillation, the lifeguards worked in support. Jack assisted with securing neck collars, applying oxygen masks, and preparing victims for transport. Cole and Carter treated multiple victims for injuries and shock. Meagan provided first aid to victims in need of oxygen and assisted with crowd control.
Thanks to the coordinated response, the unconscious victim regained a pulse and later recovered in hospital. Once the scene was secured, the lifeguards returned to duty at the beach – true to their professionalism and sense of responsibility.
