If you know of a rescue, send us the information. We'll need as
much of the following information as you can provide:
The nominator's name, address, phone number and e-mail
address
The rescuer's name, address, phone number and e-mail
address
The date of the rescue.
Details of the rescue: Tell us the story and
outline the facts - when, where and under what circumstances did
the the rescue occur? What did the rescuer (and others) do? The
more details you can provide, the better.
All nominations are reviewed by the Lifesaving Society's Rescue
Commendation Chair and evaluated based on these criteria:
- ability to recognize the emergency
- willingness to intervene
- evidence of good judgment
Neither the outcome (successful or not) nor the degree of risk
involved are criteria in the decision. Timeliness is an issue.
Normally, recognition is only given within 24 months of the
rescue.
The Rescue Award of Merit may be awarded to Lifesaving
Society award holders for aquatic or non-aquatic rescues. Non-award
holders may be eligible, but only for water-related rescues.
Lifeguards and instructors who perform rescues in the course of
their employment are not normally eligible.
