CPR-HCP/BLS & AED

CPR-HCP/BLS & AED (HCP stands for Health Care Provider) covers all aspects of CPR skills and theory for adult, child and infant victims, including rescue breathing (artificial respiration) and the use of AEDs and bag-valve-masks (BVM). This HCP level is designed specifically for those who, as part of their job descriptions as Health Care Providers, have a duty to respond to medical emergencies (e.g., doctors, nurses, paramedics and allied health care professionals).

Prerequisite: None.

Instruction and certification: Current First Aid Instructors who hold Lifesaving Society CPR-HCP/BLS & AED teach CPR-HCP/BLS & AED. Current First Aid Examiners who hold Lifesaving Society CPR-HCP/BLS & AED certify candidates.

Candidate recognition: Certification card.

Required reference material: Canadian CPR-HCP Manual (Note that some affiliates provide materials to candidates, and some require candidates to purchase materials on their own. Double check before you purchase.)

Recertification: No recertification option. To remain current, candidates retake the full course.

AT-A-GLANCE

  1. Demonstrate one-rescuer adult, child and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a manikin, and how to use an AED.
  2. Demonstrate two-rescuer adult, child and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a manikin.
  3. Simulate the treatment of:
    • a conscious adult or child with an obstructed airway
    • complications: a pregnant person and someone who is obese
  4. Demonstrate the treatment of a conscious infant with an obstructed airway on a manikin.
  5. Simulate the treatment of an unconscious adult, child and infant with an obstructed airway.
  6. Demonstrate rescue breathing on a manikin.
  7. Demonstrate use of a bag-valve-mask (BVM).

CPR-HCP course
